Methylated B-Vitamins on a GLP-1: Why They Matter

Standard B-vitamins have to be converted to their active forms. Methylated versions skip that step. Here is what the research says, and who benefits most.

B-vitamins are unglamorous. They also happen to be the nutrients most people quietly run short of when appetite drops. Here is why the methylated forms are worth caring about, without the wellness-industrial hype.

What methylated means

Standard B12 (cyanocobalamin) and standard folate (folic acid) have to be converted by your body into their active forms before you can use them. Methylated versions (methylcobalamin for B12, L-5-MTHF for folate, P-5-P for B6) are the active forms. Your body can use them directly, without the conversion step.

Why it matters on a GLP-1

Two reasons. First, you are eating less, so you are getting less of every B-vitamin from food. Second, low B-vitamin status is one of the most-cited contributors to the fatigue, brain fog, and low mood that people report a few months into a GLP-1.
